JOY AS AN ACT OF RESISTANCE

Resistance can be necessary for things to change, personally and on a large scale. We do not mean the kind of stubborn resistance a toddler has to taking a bath -- though even that, has its own significant value in child development. We mean the kind of resistance we have been seeing lately. The 4th of July can be a reminder to use the rights and freedoms we have to make a positive change for all people and our shared Earth. Right now, more than ever, we need each other to move forward. We need to support each other, love each other, be joyful together, and help each other grow.

Just like the plants we cultivate, we all rely on a variety of factors to flourish. We need the light of the sun, the cycles of the moon, the microbes in the soil, the nourishment of water, and the tenderness of human touch. We each require a unique balance of nutrients to thrive -- it is up to each of us to learn about ourselves and what we need to be healthy and happy. There are so many ways to keep ourselves feeling emotionally and physically balanced.

Here is a brief list of ideas that might help bring some wellness and joy into your life, and possibly someone else’s:

  • Write a letter to someone telling them what you love about them.

  • Stretch, exercise, dance, or use your body in some way.

  • Journal, draw, or make art.

  • Make a healthy meal.

  • Plant some flowers or herbs, you can re-use one of our eighth jars to do it!

  • Spend time in nature.

  • Take a nap or enjoy a good night’s sleep.

  • Drink plenty of water - maybe add some fruit slices to make it extra colorful.

After months of sheltering in place, we hope this holiday weekend offers reflection and connection regarding the things that make you feel free and good.  We recognize how interconnected we all are, and continue to give thanks for that interdependence. We are going to keep supporting all of you as best we can, and hope you do the same. Thanks for being part of our community and continuing to CHOOSE KINDLY

give all strains a chance

New scientific research shows that there may not be much of a correlation between THC content and how high people can get. This article from Futurism references a scientific study that assessed a group of 121 individuals smoking a variety of different cannabis concentrates and flowers from the legal market. “While [they] saw striking differences in blood levels between the two groups, they were similarly impaired.”

This means that cannabis consumption may not hit people the way we all thought -- as in, the more someone smokes the higher they can get. It also challenges a common assumption that the higher THC percentage of a product correlates to how stoned someone can be.

At Humboldt Farms we aim to produce the highest quality, sun-grown flower and aim for high potency strains in our flower and high potency concentrates - we never compromise quality for quantity. What we mean is that our farmers are not only growing cannabis that is going to hit that high THC percentage a lot of people look for, but cultivating flower with a full spectrum effect. We not only  want to get people high but also want to provide potent plant medicine that has positive effects on the entire body. In our opinion, good weed gets you high, also has incredible flavor, lowers stress levels, makes the body feel good, inspires creativity, and connects us to a deeper sense of self. We want smoking a bowl, taking a dab, or having a puff from a vape pen to feel like a breath of fresh air - just like the fresh Humboldt air our plants are grown in.

We have a lot of incredible strains that “test lower.” Some may recall one of our batches of Pineapple Upside Down Cake that tested around 15% - and while many of the “High THC-only folks” did not want to give it a chance, we got RAVE reviews on it for flavor and feeling.

Our Live Resin carts also test lower than some brands, but we have a very good reason for that. To make our carts fully smokeable, we have to keep the high testing crystals out of the mix, otherwise, they usually get stuck in the cartridge.

All we are saying is give all strains a chance! For our true cannabis connoisseurs, we think it is worth trying all our strains regardless of THC content. Hopefully, these articles give you a bit more insight and confidence knowing that once you are high, you are high. And sometimes the key to a better high is not more THC but more full-spectrum cannabinoids, which our plants have a lot of. But don’t take our word for it, give some of our lower testing strains a try and tell us what you think! We love hearing feedback from our community and hope you CHOOSE KINDLY.

Herbal Allies & Smoking Blends
herbalspiritsrollie.jpg

Herbal smoking blends are a great way to spice up your spliffs, juice up your joints, and beautify your bowls! There are many smokeable herbs that have properties to help calm your nerves, elevate your mood, and some that can even help your body in other beneficial ways. There are many benefits to consuming herbs. Clearly, we're on the cannabis train -- and there are many other plant allies that pair well with cannabis. Some of the most common herbs you'll find in herbal smoking blends are Mullein, Damiana, and Rose. Though depending where you source from, we've seen them include: lobelia, lavender, raspberry leaf, chamomile, skullcap, and even blue lotus. Each of these herbs has it's own unique qualities that add to your high and alter the overall effect on your system. Herbal smokes can be a really fun way for anyone to enjoy a little more flower power in their smoking routine and can also be a really great support for anyone trying to quit smoking tobacco - as it cuts the tobacco with other herbs but still offers the feeling of smoking.

Herbs are a great way to alter your mood and keep your system balanced. First off, they are all natural, free of synthetic chemicals that toxify our bodies, and come straight from the Earth. Herbs have been used for centuries by every culture on the planet to help heal the body, mind, and even the spirit. Secondly, many of the most common herbs can be used freely with little to no side effects, addictive qualities, or negative results. Most herbs you find in a smoking blend are also herbs you can make tea out of! Though some herbs do have very specific uses and should be used sparingly or with the consult of an herbalist, the herbs in these smoking blends are safe for daily consumption. Third, who doesn't love flowers? As much as we love our beautiful Humboldt flower, there is something really special about blending in more colorful flowers to bring more joy to any joint. After all, we are all about living, giving, and growing -- so anything that helps us chill out and cheer up is a win for the Humboldt Farms fam.

Because we like to keep it local, we’ve got a Humboldt based source of herbal smoking blends for you. Herbal Spirits is offering a special discount code for anyone in our Humboldt Farms network! Humboldt Magic
DSC_5022.jpg

What makes Humboldt such a magnificent place? Could it be the misty sky on a crisp California morning? Or the whispering cooes of critters deep within the Redwoods? Whatever it is there is truly magic in the air.

With over 50,000 acres of lush forest, The Redwood National Park is most captivating during the spring. You can find some of the tallest trees in the world surrounded by an array of blooming orchids and poppies -- a real life fairy land.

We here at Humboldt Farms love to highlight the adventure seekers. What better way than a stroll through The Giants. With entrances just north of Garberville . The bright greens and yellows will hypnotize you as you loop around the State Route 254 in search of your favorite grove. The road itself gives you amazing views of these colossal giants. If you have not driven this route then you must add it to your bucket list, it is one of the best places in California.

Humboldt Farms Hosts First Wellness Experience at Historic Northern Nights Music Festival

Yoga, breathwork, cacao and cannabis! What a spectacular weekend we had, July 19th to the 21st, co-creating the first cannabis-infused wellness experience at Northern Nights Music Festival, the Emerald Triangle’s premiere live music and camping experience.

Now in its seventh installment, Northern Nights was especially historic this year for being the first three-day overnight camping festival in the country to allow the recreational dispensing and use of cannabis via AB2020. Nestled in the Redwoods on the Eel River, Northern Nights is known for marrying cannabis and festival culture, and Humboldt Farms was thrilled to conceptualize the first cannabis-infused wellness experience at the festival, titled Re-Creation.

We developed Re-Creation with Letesha Holley and Nate Mezmer, co-founder of San Francisco’s City Fit Fest, that took place during the weekend of the festival. Both Saturday and Sunday offered classes exploring mindfulness, movement, healing, and community, combined with the restorative powers of Humboldt Farms flower.

In our ongoing commitment to the arts, we also had a Poem + Polaroid pop-up, and a Write A Postcard To Your Future Self station. Festival-goers were asked to answer two questions on a postcard: 1) What do you love about cannabis? 2) What do you love about yourself? We held on to the postcards and will be mailing them on the next full moon.

A highlight of the weekend was a conversation with Humboldt Farms’ co-founder Liz Lux titled Cosmic Consciousness: Cannabis and Medicinal Plants for Life & Death. After sharing flower in sacred communion, Liz took us on a cosmic carpet ride through an intellectual discussion on the nature of consciousness and plants, and her experiences as a death doula. Rounding out the Re-Creation weekend was a soul jam with Nina Grae, in which all participants were welcomed to offer a song, a story, a creative expression in a free form jam session. Other workshops over the weekend included:

Breathwork & Cacao guided by Paola Ucelo, Self Care: Cannabis & CBD 101 with Letesha Holley, Self-Massage and Stoned Yoga with neuromuscular therapist Katy Karns, Movement is Medicine with movement coach Vishal Kumar, Restorative Acro Yoga with Adam Frater & Sammie Mancine, CBD & TLC with Relationship Coach Leah Morris, Hypno Trance Dance with Amanda Silvati, and Infused Yoga with Kaeli Renae.

Huge thanks to Nate Mezmer and Letesha Holley for helping to create such an impactful weekend, and to Kaeli Renae for her artistic touch. Special thanks to our Humboldt Farms team members who kept participants hydrated and happy, and kept the vibe super high all weekend. Lastly, thank you to Northern Nights Music Festival for having the vision to incorporate wellness into the festival. We’ll see you next year!
